Chapter 4, Verse 6 thru 10

  1. During this session, we will take a step back and look at the Bhagwad Gita journey so far and then proceed with Ch 4 verse 7,8,9 and 10

Chapter 1/Arjun Vishad - The miserable condition of Arjuna(In the battlefield-field of action) was discussed.

Chapter 2/sankhya: Discusses self knowledge, the basis of selfless action and characteristics of a person of wisdom.

    Chapter3/Karma :Action is inevitable.
The world is made/runs in the spirit of Yagna(sacrific )and our spirit of action should be alligned with the spirit of nature/creation i.e. sacrifice.

Desire is the enemy within which prevents us from working in this manner and condeming us to working for it's fulfillment and therefore this(desire) needs to be killed.

Therefore, so far the problem( unhappiness /misery of human life) is dicusssed and the solution for this is self knowldge and how Karma( desire -orientated) should be transformed to Karma Yoga(action without personal desires) to attain self knowldge.

In chapter 4 Jnana, karma, sanyasa: Krishna gives the knowledge of "divine" and the lord's path to achieve the same result although at a glance, it (god realization vs. self realization)does appear as two distinct paths ; these two are connected.

The lord is sharing the knowdledge about himslef with Arjuna.
The knowledge is old , he himself gave the knowledge to the sun god Vivaswan and the tradition got broken. He remembers all of these as he remebers all the births( not only his) but Arjuna does not remember any of his previous births.

4.7-When there is decline of virtue and increase in the vice, I manifest myself.
4.8 For protection of the pious ,destruction of evil and establishing virtue, I manifest myself in different ages.
4.9 The one who knows the divine birth and actions of Mine is not reborn after death of the present body. He attains Me
4.10 Getting rid of attachment, fear and anger and absorbed in Me,and purified by the Knowledge, people can come to me.

Important takeaways from the above :
1.God/Avatar manifest himself of his own choice and not due to bondage to the birth and death cycle of normal human beings.
    2. The action of the lord is not arising of some personal desire but for the well being of all.
3.The one who has knowledge of the nature of avatar /god and what is the nature of work is able to work in the right way and attain god/self realization

This is very instructive as it inspires us to follow the path of the lord by correcting our belief( That I am body and mind.Knowing true self is knowing god) . Correcting this belief will bring about the change in our attitude and intention to work( fulfilling one's own desire to that of working for well being of all) and when we are able to work with the right attitude ,new vasanas are not created and old vasanas get burnt thereby removing the ignorance (I am body mind complex) and enabling us to see our true self and relieving us from the cycle of birth and death.
